External Contributors
VILSB is now accepting article submissions from external contributors.
If you are not affiliated with Villanova Law, you may still be eligible to submit an article for our consideration.
Eligibility
External authors may submit an article of original authorship if they meet any of the following qualifications:
- Experience in international or foreign law;
- E.g., International arbitrators, trade law practitioners, attorneys with experience practicing in foreign jurisdictions
- Legal experience in any field + unique insight on a topic in international or foreign law that coincides with your legal practice area;
- E.g., Family lawyer with perspective on differences between custody law in US vs. EU jurisdictions
- International or foreign professional experience + unique insight on a topic in international or foreign law that coincides with your profession; or,
- E.g., Diplomat with perspective on multinational treaty
- Academic background in international or foreign law.
- E.g., LLM student studying international law
Procedure
External authors must adhere to the follow procedure to submit their article for consideration:
1. Reach out to vilsb@outlook.com if you are interested in publishing an article with us.
a. Include a biography or description of your relevant qualifications.
1. You may use your LinkedIn; Curriculum Vitae/Résumé; or other professional biography
b. Include a brief (1–3 sentences) overview of your idea for an article in your email to to vilsb@outlook.com.
1. For acceptable subject matter and further criteria, see below.
2. After your idea has been approved, write your draft article to vilsb@outlook.com.
a. Refer to writing criteria below.
3. If your article is accepted for publication, the Blog staff will contact you to assign your work a Blog staff editor.
a. All communications with Blog staff must be kept professional and are subject to the Villanova University Code of Conduct.
b. Your assigned editor will return your piece with recommended changes, issues, and advice generally within three (3) weeks.
c. You do not need to make any changes, issues, or implement the editors’ advice, but we encourage you to take their recommendations and
experience with our Blog into account. Our editors are all former staff writers, and have developed remarkable familiarity with the technicalities
and style of Blog legal writing.
4. Submit your revised draft to vilsb@outlook.com.
a. We encourage writers to submit their revised drafts to within 3 weeks of receiving the editors’ recommendations.
5. Blog staff will conduct a final read-through of your article and correct any technical mistakes. Your article will then be published on vilsb.com.
a. Articles may be featured on the ILS Instagram and VILSB LinkedIn (subject to your consent).
We encourage all authors to share their published articles on their own social media as well.
